Lithium coin cells are used in many types of electronic devices to provide power for real-time clocks and CMOS memory retention.

Tech Tip: Lithium Carbon Monoflouride (BR) chemistry is used in applications that are typically low-current drain like CMOS memory back-up. Manganese Dioxide Lithium Primary (CR) chemistry is used in applications that require high current drain like SCUBA diving computers, remote door openers, etc. When necessary, you can substitute a CR battery for a BR battery but it probably won't last as long. You should not substitute a BR battery for a CR battery since the current drain characteristics of that chemistry probably will not adequately support the device.
Important: As of January 1, 2009, lithium battery products formerly shipped under CFR 49 have been reclassified as "Dangerous Goods." We ship these products under 49 CFR via UPS Ground service in the continental US and via air (UPS Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air and DHL international) under UN 3090 rules using IATA Packing Instruction 968. This means that all shipments containing lithium batteries require special labels and documents. Shipments of lithium batteries are strictly limited to no more than 2.5 kg per box (~5.5 lbs) with a total gross weight per shipment of 35 kg (~77 lbs). All shipments of lithium batteries will transit via cargo aircraft. There are no circumstances under which Epower2go, Inc. will ship lithium batteries via passenger aircraft. In addition, we provide 7x24x365 Hazmat MSDS reference services via Infotrac, Inc. and photograph each shipment to ensure that the integrity of the labeling required by the regulations is maintained during transit.
