Tech Tip: Lithium Carbon Monoflouride (BR) chemistry is used in applications that are typically low-current drain like CMOS memory back-up.Manganese Dioxide Lithium Primary (CR) chemistry is used in applications that require high current drain like SCUBA diving computers, remote door openers, etc. When necessary, you can substitute a CR battery for a BR battery but it probably won't last as long. You should not substitute a BR battery for a CR battery since the current drain characteristics of that chemistry probably will not adequately support the device.
